Supporting Santa Rosa Locals In Need

Helping Fire Victims, Empowering Women The Santa Rosa Marathon aims to support local women in need.

Tubbs Fire Support

In partnership with outdoor and fitness retailer Sports Basement, the Santa Rosa Marathon team has distributed critical supplies to North Bay fire victims in need.

After the Tubbs Fire struck Santa Rosa and the surrounding communities in October 2017, donations poured in from across the country. Unfortunately, some had to be turned away due to lack of storage space and distribution capabilities. After they saw a need—and a way to help—the Santa Rosa Marathon staff jumped in.

With a large facility that can store a significant amount of supplies, the Santa Rosa Marathon staff was able to take in donations from individuals, families, and businesses. In partnership with outdoor and fitness retailer Sports Basement, the team has distributed critical supplies to North Bay fire victims in need, primarily women. Thousands of these items, including diapers, food, clothing, and toiletries, have gone to one of the most prominent women’s organizations in the region, YWCA Sonoma County. The Santa Rosa Marathon team will continue these efforts over the coming year.

Women and children from all walks of life, with both unique and shared struggles, are positively impacted by this non-profit every day. As the world’s oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization, the YWCA strengthens community, advocates to eliminate racism, and empowers women.
